I was there at the O2. I am so happy fpr Lauren Mitchell and Kayla Williams!! They should be so so proud of themselves!! I also think the american 1 and 2 was well deserved also...whilst they are not the most "artistic" they showed the most consistency and difficulty all around and just appeared to be heads above the rest!! I feel bad for Bross as i thought she was ghoing to do it this time!! - -

Hi All,

just gone thru and been reading everyone's messages...(some were plain outright whinges and others were being critics), many of you are just supporting your own gymnast and being patriotic. I on the other hand can only comment on what I have read. I'm suprised at you all to be bickering about who should win or Bridget deserves her win (Bridget this, Bridget that)...I go for Lauren Mitchell, I believe her style, her routines and originality, will see her on the Medal Dias the next time round.

Majority of these gymnast go in there to see what they up against in the future. It's not about winning. When your expectations is only to win, what happens when you lose.

What the heck are you all talking about?! Bridget is a beautiful gymnast! Her dance is very pretty and I love her floor music! She is polished, precise, and perfectionistic. She definately deserves to be world champ. - Sloanfan

Hooray for Lauren Mitchell from Australia.:) Good to see the Aussies continually improving, shame about the floor deduction but that's the sport. How can you all dis the gymnasts because surely it comes down to the code, and if you want to win you play by the code?! With the amount of training they ALL do,surely they all deserve kudos-if you have a problem with the current gymnastics and lack of artistry then do something about it and complain about the code on the FIG website.:)(but don't say I told you to);;D - Bec

I personally feel that it is quite a feat for an Olympian to stay at top form throughout the following year, and more so to move from a one-event competitor in the Olympic team finals to US and World all-around champion. Congratulations to Bridget Sloan on sticking with her training and winning both titles! Even gold-medalists have skills they could improve--like Nastia Liukin's bars dismount, for example. The judges aren't perfect either. Now I don't know about you, but I think they know just a little more about who "deserves" to win than I do. I'll leave the judging to them : )

Also, congratulations to Rebecca Bross for an excellent performance in her first World Championships! A silver medal is a tremendous accomplishment. - Robin

You guys shouldn't be that rude with these girls, No, gymnastics' not what it was, Yes, Sloan maybe lacks on some points. But they are kids and if you want things to change, just get in the gym and educate gymnasts as you want. Bridget stayed on and did her job. Congrats to her, And when the others get more consistent and stable they should be on podium too. Poor kids... Ijust hope they don't read this forum!!!!!! - gymmary

Bridget pulled up from the scared background gymnast to the one whose consistency is the name of the game. I am proud of her and also feel bittersweet for her and Bross both. Bross will feel quite a sting for quite a while, and Bridget couldn't celebrate the way most champs are allowed because she felt badly for Bross. However, Bridget flew on vault and bars, held it together on beam, and rocked floor the way she did at Nationals. That combination was enough to win today, and I'm so pleased for her. Doesn't make sense to me to downgrade the competitors because of the era they are competing in. Would seem to suggest that any win outside of the most superb conditions is so "nothing" that the competition might as well not have been held. I would hate to hear the students I teach toss a test in the garbage simply because they didn't have the ideal breakfast or my classroom was a little cold or their favorite person was voted off of Survivor last night. That kind of surrender would suggest a pretty weak mindset, and that isn't what any of these girls should be labeled as having. There was a competition today. Bridget won today. She handled the conditions the best today. She is World Champ. I'm pleased. - Kathy

Congratulations to Elsa though!
she is a great Gymnast with a lot of charisma and elegance.
She had a really rough past year
I´m glad to see her well.
but I think she still can do better than today.
she didn´t do all her difficulty. - Anne welltz

Congratulations to Bridget Sloan on her win. I share other people's frustration with the meet though -- overall a sloppy affair not worthy of a World Championship: falls, wobbles, form breaks, sheer indifference to artistry across the board. I think the women are still trying to adjust to the new code: eight elements was supposed to be easier but it's not; it resulted in emphasis on fewer, more difficult elements and awkward combinations to hike up the D score. Gymnasts who show good flow, variety, originality, and artistry are not rewarded. The problem is the Code focuses on "skills" rather than the overall exercise -- this is not trampoline; the Code needs some serious revamping and changing the number of elements counted just will not cut it. - Vicki

I find it telling that no one has mentioned the atrocious leg form of the Romanians on vault. Instead they choose to harp on the Americans yet again. Typical. - 1999

I really enjoyed Ana Porgras and Lauren Mitchell's floor routines. Both so elegant and they interpreted the music rather than having it as background noise.

But the flickering O2 display around the edge, and the arena's commentator's non-stop chatter was a bit bizarre. Hope that goes before the Olympics. - Alison Clements

I'm not dissing Bross as a person - she seems very nice. But now we have a world champ that completely flexes her feet on bars - it drives me crazy!! And I agree with most of the others - I do find her gymnastics style very boring. I wish Bross could have pulled it off. - Gary Indiana

@ WORST ALL-AROUND FINAL EVER!
You don't have to go as far as 20 years beck! The AA final in Beijing was amazing and deep. AA top10 finishers hit 4 for 4 (well almost all; Jiang Yuyuan crashed her Amanar).
But yes, I totally agree with you, there is nothing artistic in artistic gymnastics anymore. Very forgettable final, very forgettable and robotic skills(I almost miss the good old DTY), too many falls, only one gymnast with a hint of artistic flair (Porgras). - Ian

We saw nothing new and nothing exciting at these worlds. Bridget is competent but no artist and there is very little interesting about her work.

I almost want to check her breath with a mirror to verify she has a pulse. - Yung Choe

No one is saying Bridget is perfect but if you would seriously and mouth someone to their face for no other reason then you are bitter they beat your gymnast then that says a lot about you as a person.

No one is perfect.

Bridget beat a Woga gymnast so the bashing will begin. How sad. - liliukinNOT
