The host French teams claimed victory Saturday at an international match in Chaumont.

In a dual meet against Italy, the French women topped their guests by 2 full points, 218.50-216.50. France outscored Italy on all events but floor exercise.

France's Marine Brevet was the top gymnast, edging out Italian Emily Armi, 55.25-55.00. Brevet, 17, did a forward roll out of her uneven bars dismount (Arabian double front) but had the highest score of the women's competition with 14.50 on balance beam (switch leap, back tuck; front aerial, ff, layout; switch ring; full turn with leg held; side aerial to side somi; double pike.) She scored 13.75 on floor exercise after stepping out of bounds twice (Arabian double front; 1 1/2 to double tuck; piked full-in and double pike).

Armi had the best score on floor (13.95) for a clean but simple routine (double tuck; double pike; whip to double twist; 2 1/2).

World bronze medalist Youna Dufournet competed nervously on two events, wobbling through her beam routine and suffering a fall on bars on on her opening sequence of Maloney; back uprise; full pirouette to Ricna (Stalder-Tkatchev).

In the men's competition, Hamilton Sabot led France to first place over Spain, 351.05-347.70. The Netherlands also fielded a team, scoring 310.65 without standouts Epke Zonderland, Jeffrey Wammes and Yuri van Gelder.

Sabot scored 88.50 to win the individual title over a pair of Spaniards, former European champion Rafael Martinez (87.75) and Javier Gomez (86.85).

The French host the upcoming rhythmic world championships, Sept. 19-25 in Montpellier. Like October's artistic world championships in Tokyo, Montpellier is the first rhythmic qualifying event for the 2012 Olympic Games.

"Today, our goal is London," said Jacques Rey, president of the French Gymnastics Federtaion. "France will do everything possible to make it to the 2012 Olympic Games. We are already going through the qualifications with the worlds in Montpellier and in Tokyo, but we have a good shot at a medal, thanks to Thomas Bouhail in the vault. And we firmly believe that France will be present in all four disciplines at the Olympics, which would be a feat in itself."

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
